The second link that connects both The Rum Tum Tugger and Bim Bom is the use vocals as a melody line in their music. This clarifies the heterophonic texture of the music. These melody lines above are sang by an Alto range and this music, in fact, this musical culture widely uses vocals as a melody line. Trumpet, Electric guitar and keyboard are accompanying the vocals throughout the music, where various vocal techniques are needed depends on the style.
By looking at the example stated in figure 1, the melody in The Rum Tum Tugger is quite balanced throughout the entire piece. Lots of repetitions, imitations and sequencing highlights the musical consistency and makes the melody balanced. Their melody lines are mostly in conjunct except for the highlighted part. Additionally, there are some frequent use of imitations and sequencings in the music, which the imitation is evident in Bar 68 to 69. The overall range of this piece is fairly small, which tends to repeat the same note again and again. Corresponding to The Rum Tum Tugger, melody in Bim Bom (above) are also moving in conjunct, keeping the melody itself smooth and flowing. The maximum interval of notes between Bar 17 and Bar 20 of Bim Bom is minor 3rd in Bar 17 and 20. Most of the intervals are within minor or major 2nd. With a low range of notes, the music itself sounds stable and smooth. For Bim Bom, it is in the similar shape as The Rum Tum Tugger which the melodic phrases are balanced through range of imitations, repetitions and sequences.
